Story
"I'll try" is about as reassuring as just saying, "Not going to happen." Depending on the speaker, it can be believed, but it usually seems like it's a hard-pass whenever someone claims they'll try "to be there," "to call you back," "to get it done on time." Unfortunately, "try" has been turned into a word that can't be relied upon.
If you really think about it, though, trying is a big deal. It means someone's going to make an effort. An effort to be there, to call you back, to get it done on time. Wouldn't you have had someone try than not do it at all?
For ourselves, we can make as many excuses as we want for why we won't try something. Excuses are even more painful than an effort that didn't work out. It means there was an effort gone unmade. As friends, family members, people of society, efforts are things we should at least try to do instead of passing things off as not worth our time.
Maybe you've made a promise to yourself to get something done - instead of thinking of ways to bow out of your commitment to yourself, why don't you give it a try and see how things work out? An effort made is better than an effort wasted. I hope this Double encourages you to cut back on the excuses and move forward with your efforts.
Be bold,
Landri
