As a new addition to our "Verses" series, Iron Sharpens Iron comes from Proverbs 27:17:
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
This message has been so incredibly important in my life for a long time as I strive to make a difference in the world - we grow the most when we look to help others grow as well.
But that's easier said than done, isn't it? A lot of us have put in a lot of time and effort into relationships, just to have them end or leave feeling burned.
I know, it hurts.
The truth is though, community is vital to our happiness - studies have proven it. What I love about this verse is that it's using iron as the metaphor for us. Iron is strong, it's resilient - and it's not sharpened by wood - it's only sharpened by other iron.
That's the key here - to truly grow, you need a community that's strong like you are - that cares enough to show up, that picks you up when you're down, and that celebrates along side you in your wins.
