Story
Good morning, everyone! It's been awhile, hasn't it? Well, I'm super pumped to be back to debut today's Spotlight release, Better Nerdy Than Ordinary.
When Player One was released, I mentioned my love for video games and how I got started playing them with my dad a few years ago.
Since moving out to Austin for ZOX, I haven't been able to play as much with my dad in person, so I found a way around it. Every time we both have a free afternoon, we hop on a call and catch up while playing our favorite video game. It's a really special thing for me to be able to do with him, even though we're far apart.
In the office, Nick often makes fun of me for being the biggest nerd – all in good fun, and all because of my love for anything Star Wars and Harry Potter!
Nerdy and Proud
It's funny because growing up, words like "nerd" and "geek" were deemed derogatory – something to be ashamed of rather than something to wear proudly.
Technically, we all grew up as nerds of something. Some people were obsessed with the usual things attributed to being a geek: books (I identify with this big time), movies, video games, graphic novels, comic books, mathematics, science, history, etc. But the people who usually looked down upon "nerds" were just as obsessed with their own subjects as the said-nerds were: sports!
Isn't it a little hypocritical to give people a hard time about things they love when you love something just as much?
But, I digress.
The thing is: being nerdy, geeky, smart, intellectual, dedicated, etc. is NOT a bad thing.
In fact, it adds something so special to who you are!
Interest = Drive
The reason we all become so attached to something, like a movie, equations, characters, wristbands, is because we're interested in them. And interest is incredibly powerful.
What does interest involve?
In other words, having an interest in something produces an urge that narrows our focus on something that will give us experience.
Experience is one of those things that you always hear about. Applying for a new job? You most likely need experience. Going on a trip to a new place? You'll probably hear all about the good experiences you'll have along the way.
The way that people describe having experiences sound like they're fleeting moments when in reality, they're various building blocks that form who you are. They're scattered pieces of time when you laughed, when you cried, when you discovered something new, or when you found yourself hoping for a new day. Whether they're good or bad, experiences allow you to decipher between what makes your heart delighted and what you would prefer not to repeat going forward.
Don't Be Ashamed

Are you a:
Bookworm?
Movie buff?
Gamer?
Sports enthusiast?
Stock exchange expert?
Foodie?
Zoxer?
Whichever type of nerdom you belong to, if anyone goes against you because of your interest, just remember that your admiration for something makes you uniquely you.
We should all be surrounded by things we love, which is perfect cause to be proud of your nerdiness, not ashamed of it. And I hope this beautiful Spotlight Strap helps you embrace it!
