I was so overwhelmed and thoughts of doubt kept racing through my mind: What had I gotten myself into? I’m not smart enough to be here. Maybe I should just pack my bags and move back to Kansas. I’m in over my head. There’s no way I’m going to be able to learn all of this…  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eMy mom wasn’t going to let me drown myself in negative thoughts, but she also didn’t let me have a pity party.  She told me there was a reason that I’d been accepted to that school - I earned my spot just like everyone else. However, if I didn’t start believing in myself, all of that hard work that got me there was for nothing. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eShe was right. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eLife isn’t always going to be easy, people aren’t always going to be there to pick me up when I waver or fall, but one thing I always have is myself. In that moment, I knew that the first step to getting through and excelling in my new journey was choosing to think positively and believe in myself.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eI’ll be honest, it wasn’t easy. Even now, I still have self-doubt from time to time. I still overthink things and question my own abilities. Though through all those challenges I've faced, I've found happiness. I've found that when I can prove to myself that I have what it takes, the doubt disappears. Many of you have heard the story of my dad. Growing up, he had always sold Chevys - I'd often go visit him at the dealership with my mom, to the point where they say my first word was actually 'Vette'. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhen I was about 18 yrs old, my dad drove a Corvette in the parade, parking in front of my aunt's house afterwards as we had a big family cookout in the back yard. I rushed to the front as soon as I saw him pulling up, asking if I might be able to drive it, just down the street. My countless requests failed, to the point where I became upset. It was my dream car, my first word... yet I had never even driven one. Why couldn't he see how important this was to me?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfter his final 'NO', I swore to him that I would buy one before he did. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHe laughed at me. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe man I looked up to the most in my life, the one who taught me everything I knew about cars, laughed at me when I told him my dream.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI spent the next 5 years of my life with one single goal: To prove him wrong. I worked like I never had before, day and night, multiple jobs just to save up money and make my dream a reality.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn my 23rd birthday, I flew up to Sacramento and picked up my first Corvette. I called him that night as I was driving down the PCH, leaving a voicemail I wish I could hear today. \"Hey dad, just wanted you to know that I did what you said I couldn't.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAhhh... thats making me tear up as I write it. I love my dad, and I know he never meant to hurt me by laughing - if Sven had said that to me I probably would have done the same thing. The truth is, we often end up finding motivation where we least expect to - many times from people who have no idea how powerful their words really were.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy hope for this ZOX is that it reminds you to stay strong. There's no need to be upset at the people who doubt you - use their doubt as fuel to succeed. Don't just prove them wrong, blow their expectations out of the water to the point where you establish you are a force to be reckoned with. The people who find the most success in life are the ones who are relentless - they find strength in their convictions and continue on, no matter what stands in their way. Persistence isn't just about financial success either - it's about becoming the best version of yourself by continuously working to be better. No matter what the hurdle in your life is, I'm a firm believer that persistence will get you past it. It has to. We grow the most when things are hard because we adapt and march on. My hope for this wonderful ZOX is that you find it to be a little hug that encourages you on.
