We were driving home and his response was a bit different: \"What does that mean? What is love?\" \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI explained to him that love means you care about someone very very much - they're on your mind in your heart. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI looked in the rearview mirror as I was telling him this. His response was one I'll never forget. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\"I love\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eyou\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003edad.\" \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNow this isn't the first time he's said that to me, but it was the first time he said it knowing what it really meant. I was angry and felt wronged by many things that happened in my childhood.  My anxiety was at an all time high because I would let these things run wild in my mind and affect my daily decisions and attitude towards life. At times it still happens but I always try to remind myself it’s not doing any good to worry because nothing productive is ever accomplished with worry.  I had a bad mindset that only contributed to depression by focusing on the negative.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eLife isn’t always easy but if we are choosing to learn from hard times we allow ourselves to consciously make the decision to forgive others and focus on the many things that bring us joy.  Forgiveness takes the weight of worry off of your shoulders. It doesn't mean what happened was right or that we have to forget, it simply means you have decided to choose Joy over, worry, anxiety, stress and negativity.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eBecause in the end you are taking control of your life and enjoying all the wonderful things it has to offer. It was my dream car, my first word... yet I had never even driven one. They are extremely close.  Watching my wife deal with the pain of constant vigil for Robin is heartbreaking.  It consumes a lot of her thoughts on almost a daily basis and it crushes her that she is mostly powerless to help her friend with the extreme depression they are feeling and expressing relentlessly.  Knowing what Robin is going through, I can completely understand how they could feel hopeless.  Several lost jobs, one of them an entire career, divorce, child custody battles over a newborn, losing a parent, legal issues, mental health problems, substance abuse issues stemming from these things )and contributing to them)... it's a lot. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRobin has, on multiple occasions, spoken about this despair and how it might be solved through an extreme action. There have been several interventions by my wife and by law enforcement, an ongoing issue for almost as long as I can remember.  While it has been really hard for my wife to constantly attend to this, I know for sure that if she were to lose Robin she would be absolutely devastated. Robin’s child would grow up without a parent, their mother would never forgive herself. To say they'd be missed is a massive understatement - they're incredibly important to a lot of people, even though they don’t think they are. To put it more clearly - Robin matters….and so do you.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy hope for you, when you wear this strap, is that it will serve as a reminder that no matter how low you are feeling, you\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eare\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eimportant and people need you. Sometimes things are great and we're on top of the world - other times, they're incredibly hard and we're just looking for a way back up. Maybe it's PTSD from experiences that have shaped who you've become as a person or a wonderful relationship that ended badly and you can not figure out why. There is a family who loves me, companies who will believe in me, and there is a respect for myself that I am most worthy and deserving of the kind of love that little girls spend their days dreaming about. My goal is to choose the sunlight each day. To remind myself to believe in my own talents and values. To seek out the goodness each person and each experience brings to my life. To find the pockets of light, amongst the hard parts in life where I can be happy and my truest self and bask in those moments. Having the Polaroid pictures of my friends and me celebrating, whether it be a big thing or a small gathering, means more to me now than they did the night we took the photos. Most of the photos are completely candid, random moments during the night of people playing games, engaging in conversation, or laughing at one another. I keep a stack of the photos tucked away in a little box to visit from time to time. Those little photos are my happy moments; memories I like to pull out every now and then to cherish and remember. I think each person has something akin to a Polaroid picture that they collect as memory-holders. Collecting each one to think back on in years to come. The month of June is a celebration, a beautiful month full of courage, authenticity, and pride. This month gives an opportunity for us to be ourselves, find community, and even come out. With all the love and joy being shared, it’s easy to forget the reason we celebrate the month of June. June 29th, 1969 marks the date of one of the most important days in LGBTQ+ history in the US, the Stonewall Riots. This was not the first protest for LGBTQ+ rights, but it was the most influential and sparked a five-day-long demonstration taking up most of Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, NYC, and is the reason we hold pride during June to this day. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe rainbow bricks on this strap represent the overarching question that went on to follow this historic event, “Who threw the first brick?” The brick is a memento of the Stonewall Riots, one to remind us of how far we’ve come and of where it all started.
