The ZOXBOX10 was inspired by our original Kuipers Family Arts and Crafts Night. Despite being terrible artists, we did come up with some pretty awesome designs with those paint markers. Our original idea for the ZOXBOX10 was for Jason, Jordan and I to each hand draw one design that came inside a three-pack. Unfortunately, paint markers don't work on our custom blend of elastic so we had to scrap the idea. Instead, we went back to the original designs created by our family on that November night in 2010. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWith this ZOXBOX, we wanted to throw it back to the original spirit of ZOX and the inspirations that helped make us what we are today. This box is limited to only 100 pieces because we wanted every Strap in this set to come with gold stitching. The cards all come with quotes from Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the original inspiration for the gold stitched tags. About I believe it was right around 1st or 2nd grade that I learned how to make my first paper plane. As soon as I realized I could take a simple piece of paper and make it glide across the room, I was hooked. Every piece of paper I could find was getting hurled across the room in an amazing flight of glory. Just the tiniest modification and I could get it to do loops, twirls, and even come back to me like a boomerang. We originally came up with the idea for this colorway after looking at our Pantone color book one day when we were trying to decide colors for another Strap. The magic of the Pantone book is that it’s the standard for color around the world, with very subtle differences throughout the entire spectrum. What’s crazy to me is how much colors change even on a single color card. Changing slight amounts of cyan, magenta, yellow or black ink can completely change the look of anything in print, which is what made the idea for this Strap so intriguing to me. About Being from a small town in Michigan we have always been all about community. It's amazing to be connected in a town where everyone will come together to help out someone in need. In late 2011 Spencer was diagnosed with Leukemia. He had managed to fight it off once in 2010 but it hand managed to make its way back into his body again. This came as a huge shock to everyone. Both of Spencer's parents are teachers at our local high school, Mrs. Meyer was an amazing gym teacher, I never had Mr. Meyer but he is an amazing guy. We really wanted to do everything we could to help the family out in their time of need. Even with their insurance coverage the costs of driving to the hospital and food start to add up quickly. While Spencer's situation was much more urgent, there was another teacher at our high school, Mr. Mulder, with two young sons who had booth diagnosed with MPS3A. This disease is very rare but is always fatal. MPS3A is caused by a deficiency in one of the enzymes needed to break down nutrients that are vital to the body. As the kids grow older, their bodies slowly start to break down. In most instances they don't make it past their teens. We wanted to bring both of these causes together for one amazing fundraiser for our community. We knew the response was going to be huge so we made 2,000 Straps in the original colorway. These were distributed between all 10 schools in the district. By the time school was over the day the Straps released, every Strap had been sold and the demand for more was overwhelming. We decided to reverse the colors on this Strap and make another 2,000 to sell. This was the best thing we could do since a lot of people ended up buying one of each. Within 5 days of releasing the Straps in the schools the Straps were sold out again. In total we ended up raising just under $28,000 for the families. Both families used the money to help cover their transportation costs and the majority was donated to research to find cures for each disease. Outside Design We had each kid sign their name with a sharpie. We then digitalized their signatures and printed them on the Strap in purple with an orange background.
